United Way of Monmouth County’s Volunteer Center Opens!

On April 1, 2009, United Way of Monmouth County’s Volunteer Center opened its doors and kicked off a new era of volunteering throughout the county. The Volunteer Center itself is not a new concept to Monmouth County. It has, in fact, been a friend to nonprofit agencies in Monmouth County for several decades; most recently housed within Family and Children’s Services in Long Branch, NJ. In the Fall of 2008, the opportunity arose for United Way of Monmouth County to bring the Volunteer Center under its wing as part of United Way’s Call to Action: GIVE. ADVOCATE.VOLUNTEER.

In addition to the traditional social service agencies one would expect to find linked to the United Way organization, the Volunteer Center site also has a surprising number of arts, education, environment and animal welfare opportunities to attract individuals of all ages and skill levels. Since the opening of the Volunteer Center, more than 100 volunteers of all ages and areas around Monmouth County have enrolled to provide their time to local nonprofit agencies.

Interested in participating in the Volunteer Center? Click on “Volunteer” to register. You may also contact United Way of Monmouth County’s Volunteer Center Director, Tara Maffei at 732-938-5988 ext. 21, or email tmaffei@uwmonmouth.org for information or to arrange a group volunteer opportunity.
